Sandworm. First read DUNE in '76 and have read it more than a dozen times since. Oh, how cool. THANKS.

That is the craziest depiction of the sandworm I've ever seen.

nice rough style, something more aggressiv and different to the "normal" worm versions introduced by the first film and hold until now by the games and following films - it´s a little bit looking like a stargate Goa’uld

Heheh, yeah, also i've been told that sandworms don't have those spikey things on their backs, and piercing the worms with flagpoles doesn't sound like a very fremeny thing to do, but i just went with more of a 'FUCK YEAHHHH' feeling instead of accuracy. Thanks for stopping by!

oh no, keep the spikes - I like them exact for the reason all other sandworms are too unique looking

and about the flags? do you know "sparth"? your pic strongly reminded me on his style - rough, speedy, motion/movement capturing - especially because he painted alot for dune

sadly his gallery was downsized, earlier there were more dune pics of his book to see online - go for his homepage [link] and watch the gallery (the ninth pic in the row from top shows f.e. a wormrider with a flag standing on a worm - where do I have seen it recently? ;-) )
